Gopinath Muthukad’s Inclusive India Bharat Yatra for Disability Awareness Completes One Month
Thiruvananthapuram: Gopinath Muthukad’s Bharat Yatra, titled Inclusive India, has successfully completed one month. This initiative, led by the renowned magician, aims to raise awareness about disabilities and promote social inclusion. Since its commencement on October 6, Mr. Muthukad has traversed twelve states and one union territory, spreading the message of equality and inclusion.
The journey flagged off with an initial program in Chennai on September 28 and officially started from Kanyakumari on October 6 after an introductory event in Lakshadweep on October 2. The campaign has reached various institutes under the Department of Empowerment of Persons with Disabilities (DEPwD) and the Ministry of Social Justice and Empowerment in different states of India.
The central theme of the yatra, “Watch Your Watch,” uses magical performances to convey the responsibilities and duties of society toward people with disabilities. This initiative, organized in collaboration with the central government’s Ministry of Social Justice Department, marks the first time a magician has undertaken such an extensive journey for the cause of disability inclusion.
The journey includes performances by talented artists with disabilities from the Different Art Centre in select states. After four previous Bharat Yatras aimed at promoting Gandhian values against separatism and communalism, Gopinath Muthukad’s fifth Bharat Yatra—coming after a gap of 14 years—is dedicated to disability inclusion. The yatra is set to conclude in Delhi on December 3, celebrated worldwide as the International Day of Persons with Disabilities.
