Inclusive India

Different Art Centre, in partnership with the Department of Empowerment of Persons with Disabilities (DEPwD), Ministry of Social Justice and Empowerment, Government of India, has successfully completed its pan-India travel awareness campaign, “Inclusive India.” This 5th travel awareness campaign aimed to promote social inclusion of persons with disabilities, covering over 22,000 kilometres and 40 locations from Kanyakumari to Kashmir.

The campaign’s centrepiece was a specially designed magic spectacle, crafted by Shri. Gopinath Muthukad. This innovative program seamlessly blended educational content with magical elements, captivating audiences and conveying the vital message of inclusivity. The unique fusion of education and entertainment created a lasting impression, inspiring a more inclusive and empathetic society.

The “Inclusive India” campaign successfully engaged a diverse and extensive audience, comprising:

  • Rehabilitation professionals and experts
  • Students and academia
  • Technologists and innovators
  • Government officials and authorities from concerned departments
  • Regional and central administrative officers
  • Parliamentarians and elected representatives
  • United Nations agencies, including WHO and UNICEF

This broad outreach ensured that the campaign’s message of inclusivity and empowerment resonated with stakeholders across various sectors, fostering a collective commitment to creating a more inclusive society.

The “Inclusive India” awareness campaign achieved remarkable success, directly impacting approximately 20,000 individuals through regional events held across various locations.

Furthermore, the campaign’s objectives resonated with thousands more through, social media platforms, print media and digital media. The campaign’s extensive outreach and media coverage amplified its message, promoting a culture of inclusivity and empathy across India.

Scope of the Campaign

Despite progress, social inclusion of persons with disabilities in India remains a pressing concern. Persistent gaps in equality and accessibility underscore the need for sustained efforts. Several significant barriers, including physical, attitudinal, institutional, economic, and technological obstacles, hinder the inclusion process. Societal sensitization is crucial to challenge stigma, foster inclusive environments, and promote positive attitudes towards persons with disabilities. By addressing these barriers and promoting inclusivity, a more equitable society can be created.
